September 11th, 2001 shocked the world and our Camp Aquehonga Family. A dedicated Scouter and former Aquehonga Staff Member, Shawn E. Bowman, Jr., a Human Resources employee of Cantor Fitzgerald, was lost on that sad fall morning.

Shawn spent five years serving in various positions of the Camp Aquehonga Staff. From aquatics instructor and office manager to his most poignant role as services director, Shawn was admired by many of this former staffmen as a caring, compassionate and hardworking Scouter. In the summer of 1992 his fellow staff members and co-workers voted Shawn "Super Staff Member of the Year" a title which is held by a mere handful of Aquehonga Staff Alumni.

Many of his fellow staff members, friends and family, saw it fit to honor him at a place he called home for most of his life, Camp Aquehonga. In the days following the tragedy, the idea came forth to honor Bowman's memory and keep his name alive for generations to come.
