The Village at Lakeside

The Village at Lakeside is once again one of Ten Mile River’s most exciting outpost programs. Located on the Lakeside Rivera of beautiful Crystal Lake, The Village offers many exciting programs to scouts and scouters of all ages and experience levels. As The Village grows more and more popular every year we continue to expand our program to include many of your old favorites, and some brand new activities.

Our returning programs will include the popular Blind Mans Maze, Fishing off The Village Docks and Volleyball. In addition we will continue to host the most famous Barbeques on the reservation. Enjoying a nice hamburger on the Lakeside Rivera of scenic Crystal Lake is not something you should miss.

This summer The Village will be introducing several programs new to TMR. The highlight of which is the Indian Lore Overnight where scouts will have the opportunity to spend a night at The Village sleeping in Indian Teepees and working on the Indian Lore Merit Badge. This program will be the first of its kind. In addition we have added a new Geocaching course to The Village, so scouts can learn how to use a GPS while exploring the historic Camp Man.

But the Village program is not only limited to these items. Units are encouraged to talk to their Program Director to schedule some of the many other activities available at The Village.

As one of TMR's many program outposts, The Village is shared among all the camps at TMR. To find out when your camp is scheduled to make use of the programs at The Village, consult the TMR Outpost Program Master Schedule. Reservations are required for activities at The Village, and you can make those with your Program Director. We strongly recommend that you reserve your time Sunday upon arrival, because slots fill up very quick. Any questions specifically pertaining to The Village Program can also be directed to your Program Director - or contact the Village Director, Steven Rastetter directly at lchief@suanhacky.org.

Program Opportunities
Lenape Village

Overnight sleepover in our teepees or just come for a visit.

Blind Man's Maze

This program brings to both Scouts and Scouters an exciting experience, and adventure into the unknown. Scouts are bought together to experience trust and awareness of being blind. Using the Buddy System, one Scout has a neckerchief covering his eyes while the other helps him through the maze. It is definitely a challenge following the rope path, passing through the tunnel, continuing through the tire and then crossing the Ramapo Bridge. The Blind Man’s Maze is a great confidence course, as it builds up a scout's self-esteem and awareness.

Fishing

The docks at the Village are specifically made for fishing with safety lines tightly wrapped around the entire dock. The shade from the dock allows for a nice cool place for Crystal Lake’s Perch, Pickerel, Small Mouth Bass and Sun Fish. For your convenience, we have a BBQ area if you would like to cook your catch.

Mountain Bike Overnight

An overnight consists of a mountain bike ride from your camp, a journey through the Blind Man’s Maze, fishing, and a BBQ at Lakeside. Campers will attend a closing Campfire, and bed down in the newly renovated lean-to site.

Troop Overnights

A night in the Village can be an experience in itself. Camping in Lean-tos (or teepees) alongside the scenic Crystal Lake with a glowing fire is something all Scouters should experience.

BBQ on the Lakeside Riviera

The Village has become famous for its Hamburger & Hot Dog BBQ’s. While a few troop members Barbecue, the rest enjoy the other Village facilities.

Vollyball

For the sportier group, we have a homemade volleyball net for your troop to show its competitive side. Scouts vs. Leaders and Patrol vs. Patrol games are always enjoyable before or after lunch on the field overlooking the beautiful Crystal Lake.

Geocaching

One of the newest sports taking the nation by storm! Using a single GPS unit and coordinates, scouts can be sent on a Village-wide scavenger/treasure hunt. Scouts will enjoy finding and mapping the hidden points through a challenging coarse that will take them through the Village and historic Camp Man, including the Tower of Friendship and the Roosevelt Campfire area. Multiple courses will be available for all ages and experience levels.
